At 10 years old, Aina was happiest in the ocean. She spent every moment she could in the water, dreaming of the day she could trade her everyday bikini for one of those frilly tube tops that made a girl feel like a mermaid.

With the basic sewing skills her mother had taught her, along with her mother’s sewing machine and supplies, Aina set out to make one herself. Using an old T-shirt, she stitched together her very first handmade bikini — with plenty of frustration, broken needles, and DIY videos along the way.

That little creation sparked something bigger. Not long after, Hokulele Swim was born, inspired by Aina’s lifelong love of the ocean, island life, friendship, and fashion — and a dream to create swimwear that makes every girl feel a little more like a mermaid.
